I made a mistake…

making mistakes in business

These last few months, I’ve been recovering from major surgery AND major complications from that surgery.

At the same time, I’m still trying to run my business.

From the surgery, I have been dealing with “anesthesia brain” or possibly, at this point, I may have moved into “menopausal brain” but either way, my memory these last few months hasn’t exactly been the same. So much so that I have to write everything down and anytime I have an appointment, I set alarms in multiple places.

So it was disappointing when I recently missed a call with a potential client. I loved what this woman was doing and was really excited to have the opportunity to support her. She fit right into my niche of business strategy for health and wellness professionals.

But I got the time zones mixed up. Something that I NEVER do. (until now!)

I was so frustrated with myself, for making this mistake. I could tell the woman was upset and I apologized profusely (I didn’t mention my surgery as that would have just sounded like an excuse, even though it’s a real thing!). I offered to set up another time but also said that I understood if she didn’t want to proceed.

She didn’t.

Why am I sharing this with all of you?

  1. Because I believe in transparency – sharing not just the wins but also the losses (and mistakes) that we ALL experience in our businesses and…
  2. Because while that was a loss, it was also a learning experience.

I could have spent the rest of the day stressing over the situation and being upset with myself. Instead I chose to grow from this experience. To give a little grace to myself and to remember to give grace to others, when they make mistakes.

And a few days later, I got to practice having grace with others when a grocery order was mixed up. The woman was so upset with herself and her team and was apologizing so much – and I just let her know, it’s no problem, mistakes happen. I hope that my grace with her, helped give herself a bit of grace as well.

No one is immune to the challenges in life … I hope we can all find a little grace to give – to ourselves and to others.

Wishing you a beautiful day.

Chrissy
